Tundra is an area where the tree growth is slowed down by low temperatures and short growing seasons. The Antarctic can also be called a tundra for this reason. There just aren't any trees here because it never gets warm enough for them to grow.

Amazon River

hello everyone im now at the amazon river.
The Amazon Riveriis the world's largest river in terms of the amount of water which travels down it, and the second longest river in the world after the Nile. It is located in Southern America. About ten million years ago, water eroded through the sandstone to the west and the Amazon began to flow eastward. At this point time the Amazon rainforest was born. The amazon river is a very large river and is about 6280km long. The Amazon collects water from just over 40 percent of South America's Landmass, the Amazon is between six and ten kilometres wide. people do lots of logging in the amazon which is slowly destroying it. There is lots of tourism here as well, and many people depend on the river for their income and survival.

Kakadu

Hi everyone, I am now at kakadu national park. Its so lovley here now as im am visiting it in the middle of the wet and dry season so it's not to hot and not to cold.It is lovely to wake up to the sound of birds and the waterfall crashing down 100m away.
The name 'Kakadu' comes from an Aboriginal floodplain language called Gagudju which was one of the languages spoken in the north of the park at the beginning of the twentieth century.
Its amazing to see the range of different birds and how the aboriginals love the bush as much as they do.Yesterday I saw a group of young UNI students working and i asked them what they were doing, they said that they were from grifith UNI and were doing study on how to irradicate cane toads from the area.
The Himalayas

Hello, i have been at the himalays for 6 days now and have been up mt. everest. I have met some local people and they say that himalaya means "abode of snow". The mountain system in Asia, forms a broad continuous arc for nearly 2600 km.
The Himalays averagie height is 320 to 400 km. The natural vegetation is influenced by climate and elevation. Tropical, moist deciduous forest at one time covered all of the Sub-Himalayan area. With few exceptions most of this forest has been cut for commercial lumber or agricultural land. In the Middle of Himalayas elevations are between 1520 and 3660 m, natural vegetation consists of many species of pine and oak trees.

Hello again everyong, i am now just about to leave the Canadian Prairies.
I have had a great time and learnt alot about these enviroments.
The prairies i have been to have lots of short grass but very little trees, but most of it has been farmed but i managed to get to a natural non-human part of it. The praries is one of the best places in the world to extract oil from the earth.

The Praires are getting destroyed slowy as hundreds of tourists come to see them and they are near the rocky mountains. Most of the water that they get is from the big dump of snow that they get in winter, when it melts they get lots of water.

The south pole

Hi everyone, i am curently visiting the south pole and have seen lots of snow. This is the little house i am staying in, it is very small compared to what im used to.
When i arrived i saw some penguins. we sat and watched them for about an hour, then we fed them some sardines and left for the little house. The little house im staying in is a basecamp for the SCAR ice core lab. I have seen two documentaries get filmed and people doing trecks for a fun thing to do. (I think It Would Be Very Hard)
I have seen some of the core samples get drilled and to see air that is 10 million years old is strange. The man who is in charge of the core driller is a very nice man and has won 3 scienc awards at the international science awards. He has one all of them for polar reasearch and thinks he is going to go to the great barrier reef next month for some study there. What I find very weird is that this isn't only a polar region it's also a desert and a tundra. It's a desert because it has no flowing water, all its water is frozen, and tundra is an area where the tree growth is hindered by low temperatures and short growing seasons. It suprised me how some people come here to re-enact early explorers trips like 'Sir Douglas Mawson'.
